Buddhist holidays

Buddhist holidays and celebrations are often calculated according to the Lunar calendar, except in Japan, where the Solar calendar is used. In different Asian countries, the beginning of the year varies and leap years are calculated differently.

Buddhist traditions also have different calendar festivals, which are mainly divided into Theravada, Mahayana, Tibetan Buddhist and Japanese Buddhist holidays. The Buddhist calendar of festivals is therefore changeable and varies according to many factors.
