Tibetan Buddhists celebrate the Butter Lamp Festival, known in Tibetan as Chötrul Duchen, on the first full moon day of the Tibetan calendar year to commemorate the Buddha’s miracles. The Buddha performed miracles for fifteen days to increase the faith and devotion of his disciples. The full moon day is the most powerful, the effect of all deeds is multiplied many times over. On this day, numerous butter lamps are lit, both in homes and in public spaces, often placed in impressive structures.
