Ganesh Chaturthi day is celebrated to honor the appearance of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is half human and half elephant. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. He is known as Vighanharta, or the remover of material and spiritual obstacles, and he represents good luck and new beginnings. The festival is particularly popular in the Maharashtra region of India, but is celebrated all over India.
